Best Coffee Espresso Machines

Turn on a knob, press one button, and voila! A delicious cup of coffee is at your fingertips. This machine won't win any beauty contests, but it does provide a tasty cup espresso that our tasters found to be more like coffee than other machines.

It also requires a bit more effort to use than other models we've reviewed. It's nevertheless worth the effort If you're an avid Java user who likes to be hands-off.

1. Nespresso Vertuo Plus

The Nespresso Vertuo Plus will be the best Nespresso machine for you if you're a coffee lover looking for efficiency and consistency. The Vertuo Plus is easy to operate and has a minimalistic design that is compatible with any kitchen decor. Simply insert a capsule then press brew, and enjoy your beverage. The machine reads the barcode on the capsule and then automatically adjusts the brewing parameters to ensure optimal extraction. This is a big selling point for the Nespresso Vertuo line, since it doesn't need to worry about setting different temperatures or pressure for every type of drink.  Coffeee  does, however, restrict your options to Nespresso pods and does not include an inbuilt milk frother.

The Vertuo Plus uses Nespresso Centrifusion to create a smooth and rich crema. The machine spins at 7000rpm to extract all the aromas and flavors from each capsule. It also dispenses hot water while it is heating, which allows you to make American-style drip coffee as well as espresso.

The Vertuo Plus is more affordable than the Creatista Pro, which makes it ideal for people who are looking to make a simple upgrade to their current Nespresso experience. The Vertuo Plus comes with smaller water tanks, which are 40 ounces compared to deluxe model’s 60 ounces. If you plan to make large quantities of drinks or have guests, then the deluxe model could be a better choice.

2. Barista Express Impress

Breville's Barista Express Impress is an attractive machine that has a stylish design and useful features. Its smart dosing and assisted tamping helps beginners simplify the process by automating certain parts of it, making it simple for anyone to make a decent espresso. It also allows for small adjustments to temperature. This is something baristas who are more experienced appreciate, since even just a few degrees can alter the taste of the espresso.

The machine has a high-quality conical burr grinder, which has 25 grind settings to fit any type of coffee. The machine also comes with a stainless steel milk jug, as well double-wall and single-wall filter baskets that can be used for one- and two cup sizes. You can also use the frothing arm to make micro-foams for cappuccinos and lattes.

We were impressed by the interface of the espresso machine is simple to use and clearly walks you through each step of the process. We also liked that the machine doesn't include lots of plastic components and is extremely durable. It's not cheap, but it's an extremely well-made machine that has many features that will last years. It also comes with a great warranty that covers mechanical issues for a full year from the date of purchase. This is pretty impressive for an espresso machine this pricey. If you're planning to make espresso regularly, it's worth the money.

3. Gaggia Classic

Gaggia's Classic was first introduced in 1991. It quickly gained a following of cult status due to its minimalist style and - of course – its ability to create a delicious espresso. It is back better than ever in the new Classic Pro. While the Classic Pro isn't as advanced as the other entry-level machines, it's still capable providing cafe-quality espresso using the top-of-the-line portafilter and group. As it's a single boiler, you will not be able both brew and steam simultaneously. You will need to wait a bit before pulling an espresso.

The Classic Pro has a sleek industrial look and feel that is elegant and sturdy in your hand. It has simple switches to turn it off/on, and to brew or steam, along with indicator lights. The frames and switches are more durable than the old Classic making this machine feel truly premium feel.

The Classic Pro comes with few accessories, but the 58 millimeter portafilter is a great addition. Also, the plastic tamper is a nice extra. A three-way solenoid valve is also a nice addition that helps prevent water pressure fluctuations and assists in getting rid of sloppy coffee pucks which less expensive machines struggle with. Gaggia has also included an elegant steam wand that does a great job of frothing milk to create Latte art.
